Robert Roy Armstead, 60, died at his Dallas home Aug. 6 when his short battle with lung cancer ended. His wife, Marcia, and son, Jonathan, were by his side.

Born in Lynwood, Calif., to Bill and Mary Jo “Babe” Armstead, the family moved to Dallas, where Bob spent his formative years. He was active in sports and was known for his fun-loving and charismatic personality.

He and Marcia, the love of his life, married in 1978. In 1988, they were blessed with the birth of their son, Jonathan.

Bob was a successful custom home builder in Vail, where he and the family lived for 13 years. He was an avid golfer, skier, wine connoisseur, and lover of music. He was active in the community and coached youth sports.

In the fall of 2010, Bob and Marcia moved back to Dallas to be closer to family and friends.

Bob is survived by his wife and son; his sisters and brother-in-laws Sharon and Jim Westbrook; Julie and Mike Wilson; his brother-in-law Bob Meece; his sister-in-law Anita; eleven nieces and nephews, and his six grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Babe Armstead; his brother, Bill, and sister, Mary Jo Meece.

A Rosary will be said Friday, Aug. 12, at St. Monica's Catholic Church in Dallas at 7:30 p.m. Services are at St. Monica's Catholic Church on Saturday, Aug. 13, at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
