FRIENDS, FAMILY REMEMBER BELLM.
Longtime Minturn resident, Harold R. BELLM, died May 6 in his home. A memorial mass was held at St. Patrick's Parish Center on May 10. Harold was born in New Castle, Colo. on Feb. 26, 1931. He moved to Minturn in 1941 at the age of 10. He joined the United States Marine Corps in the fall of 1950 and fought in the Korean War. Coming out of the war, Harold married the love of his life, Joyce WILSON on Sept. 12, 1953. He started his mining career at the New Jersey Mine in Gilman, and later went to work for Climax. Harold, Curly to his crews, ended his career as a Climax Shift Boss on a medical retirement in 1975 with severe arthritis. Harold served as a firefighter for the Minturn Volunteer Fire Department. He was the assistant chief and later chief of the department. Harold served on the Minturn Town Council for 10 years. He was elected Minturn's Town Mayor and remained in office for 16 years. He went on to serve on the planning and zoning commission for four years. Harold is survived by his wife, Joyce; his daughters, Jody MATTHEWS and Jacque LOVATO; son, Dan BELLM; nine grand children, Lance and Lane TRUJILLO, Ron and Rusty LOVATO, Kelsey and Brooke BELLM; Nick and Anthony MATTHEWS; one great grandchild, Ronnie LOVATO.
