BELLY BELMIRE KILLED IN COAST PLANE CRASH.
Word was received in Gypsum on Wednesday of the death of Billy BELMIRE, U. S. Navy Air Corps. Details of the death were not complete but it was understood that the former Gypsum boy met death in an airplane crash, when he was making a routine flight at Deland, Fla.
Was awarded his wings and commission as an ensign on Jan. 15, 1944.
BELMIRE is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence BELMIRE, now making their home in Beaver, Calif.
He was a graduate of Eagle County high, class of '38 where he was a star football player. After graduation from high school, he entered Mesa Junior college in Grand Junction, and there he was one of the college's outstanding athletics [sic.]. While he was in San Diego, soon after his enlistment in the navy, he was given publicity by that branch of the armed forces for his rugged athletic prowess.
I was understood Wednesday that his remains would be brought to Delta for burial.
