Tom Garnett of Boulder has died after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 85.

Born in Dubuque, Iowa, Tom was raised in Gilman, Colorado, a mining town near Minturn. Tom attended Red Cliff High School then graduated from Boulder High School in 1943. He served in Europe during WWII in the Army Signal Corps.

After the war he received his degree in Electrical Engineering from CU and married Barbara Lewis. They raised 5 children and moved to Boulder in 1968. Tom was a planning engineer for Mountain Bell, retiring in 1983 after 32 years. Barbara died in 1976.

Tom married Myra Enzenroth, after meeting at a high school reunion and discovering a

mutual Christian faith. He worked at RAD Hardware, volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and was an elder at First Presbyterian Church where he helped seminarians transition to the ministry.

Tom is survived by his wife Myra and seven children: Walt Garnett of Golden, Rod Garnett of Laramie, WY, Stan Garnett of Boulder, Doug Garnett of Portland, OR, Marcia Chapman of Tigard, OR, Al Enzenroth of Fort Collins and Sallie Enzenroth of Boulder. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, cousins Don Garnett of Pueblo and Bud Homrich of Galena, IL and 4 children of his cousin Shirley Washburn.

Tom Garnett was a good man who lived a full and meaningful life. He cared deeply about his impact on others and we will miss him - but we know he is at peace.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Crist Mortuary. Funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Monday, September 19, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church of Boulder with a reception immediately following the service.

Donations in Tom's memory may be made to Habitat for Humanity or First Presbyterian Church of Boulder.
