Kenneth Snyder May 3, 1930 – January 14, 2011 Cedaredge resident Kenneth Snyder passed away on Friday, January 14, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction. He was 80 years of age. A visitation and funeral for family and friends was held Monday, January 17, 2011 at the Thunder Mountain Church of Christ, Delta, Colorado. The eldest of six children, Kenneth Orval Snyder was born to Neal and Lorna (Swain) Snyder on May 3, 1930 in Paradox, Colorado. At the age of six his family moved to a ranch in Norwood. Ken graduated from Norwood High School and furthered his education at Western State College in Gunnison, leaving there to join the armed services, and serve in the Korean War. On June 14, 1954, Ken married the love of his life, Barbara L. Lewis in Louisville, Kentucky. To this union, three children were born. The Snyders resided in Grand Junction for over 30 years before moving to Nucla, where they purchased an 80 acre ranch. After 13 years of ranching, the couple retired to Cedaredge. Ken and Barbara had the honor of sharing more than 56 years of love and marriage. Ken, a natural engineer, was employed with the Colorado Department of Transportation for over 30 years, first as a highway surveyor then as a highway engineering technician. He was also a Mesa County foster parent for over 15 years. He always loved little children. Ken's greatest passions in life were his faith, family, and farming. Ken is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; their children, Lauri Gador and husband, Greg of Spokane, WA; foster son, Ty Raley of Spokane, WA; Susan Kiel and husband, Brad of Boulder Creek, CA, and Ken L. Snyder and wife, Julie of Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by two brothers and their wives, Raymond and Phyllis Snyder, and Terry and Joanne Snyder, both of Norwood, and three sisters, Ann Shaffer of Norwood, Violet Snyder of Fruita, and Francie and Don Yeager of Powderhorn, CO. Kenneth is further survived by four grandchildren, Lisa and Patrick McGrath, Stephanie Gador, Daniel Snyder and Trina Snyder; two great grandchildren, Taelyn and Kieryn, and a large extended family. The Snyder Family would like to extend a special thanks to the St. Mary's staff, especially ICU nurse Jim, for his exceptional compassion and professionalism, and to the Rose Hill Hospitality Accommodations. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory. View the internet obituary and sign the online guest registry at taylorfuneralservice.com.
