Mr. Peckham was a teacher
and principal.
He is survived by two sons,

Rob Peckham died peacefully
from complications of pneumonia
on Monday, December 6,
2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital with
his family by his side. He was
born on December 11, 1933, to
Edward William Peckham and
Vera Violet Hodgson Peckham in
Riverton, Wyoming. Rob’s paternal grandparents helped found the
town of Riverton, Wyoming in 1905 when a reservation was established
for settlement. In 1942 he moved with his family to Casper,
Wyoming where he graduated from Natrona County High School.
He was a graduate of Casper College and the University of Northern
Colorado in Greeley.
Rob, a Grand Junction resident since 1956, was an employee for
Mesa County Valley School District 51 for 33 years. He taught at
Riverside, Emerson and Tope elementary schools and was the principal
at Orchard Avenue and then Broadway Elementary for 17
years prior to his retirement in 1989.
Rob married Miriam Anna Blevins on August 17, 1957 at St.
Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grand Junction. Shortly after, they
moved to Bremerhaven, Germany, where he served at the U.S.
Army Port of Embarkation and then returned to Grand Junction in
1959. Miriam Peckham, Rob’s loving wife of 53 years, preceded
him in death by 16 days on November 20, 2010.
Rob was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church,
National Education Association, Grand Junction Education Association,
Phi Delta Kappa, Mesa County Loyal Order of the Moose,
GJ Lodge Partners No. 240 and various other organizations. He was
past president of the Warren McKerrow AIDS Foundation, Holy
Family Education Foundation, and Mesa Valley Elementary Principals
Association. After retiring, Rob spent countless hours over the
next 15 years or so volunteering his time for the Warren McKerrow
AIDS Foundation as a Caregiver for patients suffering from AIDS.
He lived his life and truly believed in this quote by Horace Mann:
“Be ashamed to die before you have won some victory for humanity”.
He proudly displayed this quote in his office.
Rob’s Christian beliefs were demonstrated repeatedly with his volunteer
work and his random acts of kindness.
He enjoyed many varieties of music, reading, dramatic theater,
biking and computer-related activities. Above all, Rob loved his
family dearly.
Rob is survived by his four children, Terry Peckham Kercheval
(Jeff) of Aurora, CO; Cindy Peckham Bengford (Dusty) of Fort
Collins, CO; Robin Peckham, Jr. of Grand Junction, CO, and John
Peckham of Denver, CO. He is also survived by his five grandchildren,
Cody and Mary Bengford of Fort Collins, CO; Jamie Peckham
LeVan (Brad) of Tempe, AZ, and Lauren and Katie Kercheval
of Aurora, CO.
In addition to his wife, Rob was preceded in death by his parents
and his two siblings, Ted Peckham of Pacific Grove, CA, and Dick
Peckham of Monterey, CA.
Visitation will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on Monday,
December 13, 2010 from 2 - 7:00 p.m. followed by the Rosary beginning
at 7:00 p.m. Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated
on Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart
of Mary Catholic Church.
