Josefina “Josie” Herrera, 60, of Leadville, passed away Saturday. She was born to Eleuterio and Luisa (Alarcon) Martinez on March 18, 1951, in El Paso, Texas.

Josie attended Battle Mountain High School and worked in housekeeping, customer service and was a sales associate. She enjoyed working and volunteering at St. George Episcopal Church, visiting with the elderly, and was an inspiration to all ages. Josie was a very outgoing person in the community and was available at all times for advice and prayer. Her kind spirit attracted people to her and she genuinely cared for others. She was the type of person that people will always remember and cherish in their heart.

Josie is survived by her son Leroy Pete Herrera (Crystal LaComb Gonzales); daughter Angela Herrera (Jorge Blas); grandchildren Jada, Dominick, Angelica, Gabriel and Jessica; brothers Esteban Sanchez and Lorenzo Alarcon; sister Natalia Alarcon and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many others who considered her to be their aunt, grandma, mother and sister. She is preceded in death by Dan Leroy Herrera; her father and mother-in-law Joe and Lucy Herrera; and brothers Ramon and Francisco Martinez.

A visitation will be held today from 5-6 p.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church in Leadville with a rosary and vigil service to follow at 6 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Jesse Perez as celebrant. A reception will follow mass at the Leadville Eagles Lodge. Interment will be private.

Bailey-Kent Funeral Home of Leadville is assisting the family with arrangements.
