Ronald “Ron†Spohrer, 57, of Denver, former Eagle County resident, died Wednesday.
He was born Dec. 23, 1953, in Winfield, Kan., the son of Glenis and Albert Joseph Spohrer.
Ron was the oldest of seven boys. He was an involved Boy Scout who earned the honor of Eagle Scout. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany, where he earned Expert Marksman honors and was a paratrooper.
He moved to Vail in the early 1970s, where he took to the mountain lifestyle. He worked as a mechanic and eventually spent 10-plus years as a mechanic for Vail Resorts. Ron was a volunteer firefighter for the town of Minturn and sat on the Minturn Town Council. He loved horses and ranching and enjoyed working the early Berry Creek rodeos. Ron loved skiing, fishing and hiking. He was an avid motorcyclist and shared his love of motorcycles with his wife, Karen, and daughter, Natalie. He continued to share his passion for mechanics with his son-in-law, Morgan.
After many years living in the valley, Ron and Karen moved to the Front Range, where Ron shared his passion for engine mechanics and shop safety and management with a new generation of mechanics through his work for Wagner Training Institute. Ron was thrilled to be able to share his vast knowledge with many young and aspiring mechanics.
Ron was active in the Catholic Church, Harley Owners Group and Boy Scouts of America.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Karen Otten; daughter Natalie Russell; father Albert Joseph Spohrer; brothers Henry Spohrer, Tom Spohrer, Charles Spohrer, George Spohrer, Jim Spohrer and Father Dennis Spohrer; and son-in-law Morgan Russell.
Funeral services will be at Horan and McConaty, 7577 W. 80th Ave., Arvada, CO 80003 at 2 p.m. Saturday.
