George Dorson, 80, Grand
Junction, died Dec. 28, 2010, at
Hospice Care Center.
A memorial service will be at
2 p.m. Friday at First Christian
Church.
He is survived by his wife,
Beverly; two sons, Dwayne and
David, both of Gillette, Wyo.;
two daughters, Pennie Scanga
and Connie Freshwater, both
of Grand Junction; one sister,
Roberta Boyd of Milton, Iowa;
and seven grandchildren.

George Dorson died at the age of
80 on December 29, 2010.
He was born December 23, 1930
in Van Buren County, Iowa to
Phillip and Selma Dorson. He
grew up working on his family's
farm and graduated from high
school in Milton, Iowa in 1948.
He served in the Air Force from
1951 to 1955. During his service
in the military he worked as an aerial photographer. In 1948 he married
Doris Ruggles. They had two children David and Dwayne. This
marriage later ended in divorce. George moved to Denver in 1957
and worked in the mortuary business. In 1960, he moved to Gateway
driving trucks hauling uranium and later moved to Crested
Butte hauling lead from the Crested Butte mines. In 1966, he moved
to Salida and purchased George's Mobile and Café in Poncha
Springs which he owned and operated until 1968 when he married
the love of his life Beverly (Petrini-Moore) Dorson. He and Beverly
raised two daughters Pennie and Connie. He and Beverly owned and
operated the Salida Flower Store for many years, and in 1978 they
purchased a vending machine business. He traveled through nine
states operating this business and making many friends until 2001
when they sold the business and retired. He and Beverly moved
from Salida to Palisade in 1995 to be closer to their children. In
Palisade, they operated a small peach orchard. In 2005, they sold the
orchard and moved to Grand Junction. He was a member of the First
Christian Church in Grand Junction where he spent much of his time
volunteering. George had a love of life and people. He enjoyed his
family, church, and socializing. He had a strong faith life. He was
known for a quick wit and a great sense of humor by all.
He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife,
Beverly; his sons, David Dorson and Dwayne Dorson (Linda); his
daughters, Pennie Scanga (David) and Connie Freshwater (Greg);
his grandchildren, Franci (Scanga) Suter, Paul Scanga, Emme
Brown, Sean Dorson, Amber Dorson, Phillip Dorson, and Cindy
Dorson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 31
at the First Christian Church, 1326 North First Street, Grand Junction.
Burial will be held at a later date in Salida, Colorado.
The family wishes to express its great appreciation to Hospice and
Palliative Care for the care they provided to George. Memorial contributions
