James Edward Hurst March 22, 1939 – January 15, 2011 James Edward Hurst, age 71, of Darby, MT passed away at his home Saturday, January 15, 2011. He was born March 22, 1939 in Fruita, Colorado, the son of Joseph Clinton and Cornelia Loretta Messmaker Hurst. James attended Fruita High School graduating in 1957 and later graduated from Bob Jones University in 1988. James married Ferris Marcella Vaughn on July 14, 1963. He honorably served on the USS Lexington in the Navy from 1957 to 1961. He enjoyed fishing and nature. James was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, J.C. and Donald Hurst and sisters, Frances Harrington and Patricia Wilson Frey. Surviving include his wife, Marcella of Darby, MT; son, Timothy Hurst of Taylors, SC; daughters, Kimberly Schmal of Greer, SC and Danielle Fridley of Conner, MT; sister, Mary Jo Cady of Grand Junction, CO; brother, Floyd "Smokey" Hurst of Midland, TX; 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 20th at Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton with Pastor Doug Peterson officiating. Military honors will be presented by the U.S. Navy, Hamilton American Legion and the Marine Corps League - Bitterroot Detachment. Arrangements are under the care of the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton. Condolences may be left for the family at www.dalyleachchapel.com. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society or Huntsman Cancer Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT.
