Violet L. "Vi" Granat March 10, 1916 – January 17, 2011 Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother passed away at home with family and caregivers in attendance on January 17, 2011. She was 94 years old. Vi was born March 10, 1916 to Norville E. Wolverton and Lelia Foy Wolverton in Green River, UT. She and her family lived in a number of different settlements - including Sego, UT and Palisade, CO following her father's occupation as a coal miner. She attended public schools in Green River, Palisade and Fruita, CO. She graduated from Fruita High School in 1933. She met her soul mate, Lyndon "Lindy" Granat, in 1934 and they were married on July 12, 1935 in Fruita. They had three children. She is survived by her sons, Gary and Roger (Marie) both of Palisade; three grandchildren, Robin Finkel (Dick), Alan Granat (Carolyn), and Shawnie Roberts; two great grandchildren, Jessica Dutton and Christopher Dutton; one great great grandson, Ryley Dutton; her sister, Lois Tufly and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lindy; her daughter, Ruth; her parents; two brothers, and two sisters. Vi and Lindy settled in Palisade in 1935 and purchased an orchard in Vineland in 1940. As is common among farming couples, they shared a lot of the work involved in raising and delivering a crop to market with Vi concentrating on homemaking and Lindy working as an orchardist. In the 1950's Vi participated with Lindy as a member of the Palisade Lions Club stilt walkers. They appeared with this group in many local Lions Club events and other civic parades and traveled east to Chicago and New York to march in International Lions Club parades. In the 1960's after the family was raised and on their own, Vi took secretarial training at Mesa College and found work at what was then known as the State Home and Training School. She retired from her position in 1980. Vi and Lindy traveled extensively both before and after her retirement. Their excursions included three trips to Alaska, one trip through Mexico, a trip to Hawaii and numerous trips throughout the Southwestern United States. They wintered for many years in the Quartzsite, AZ area. Vi was initiated as a member of Palisade Chapter NO. 90 O. E. S. in 1944 and remained a member in good standing until her death. She served twice in 1950 and 1978 as Worshipful Matron of the chapter. She also served for many years as treasurer and in other positions. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Palisade Chapter No. 90, c/o Barbara Aldridge, Secretary, 639 Silver Oak Drive, Grand Junction, CO 81505. Funeral will be held Friday, January 21, at 1:00 p.m. at Martin Mortuary in Grand Junction with graveside services to follow. Visitation will be at Martin Mortuary from 4 - 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 20.
