Zelma Ellen Carlson, 94, Grand Junction, died Jan. 22, 2011, at Hospice Care Center.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Services will take place at 2 p.m. Friday at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Burial will take place at New Elmwood Cemtery.

Mrs. Carlson was a cook.

Survivors include a son, Donald of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Chella Marie Treadway of Grand Junction; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Zelma Ellen Carlson December 11, 1916 – January 22, 2011 Zelma Carlson went to be with the Lord on January 22, 2011 with her loving family at her side. She was 94 years old and a lifetime resident of Grand Junction. Zelma was born December 11, 1916 to James Marshall and Martha "Mattie" E. Stephens. She attended Grand Junction Schools and Ross Business School. In 1940 Zelma married Harvey D. Young and to this union a daughter, Chella Marie, was born. After Harvey passed away, Zelma married Victor A. Carlson. Zelma enjoyed working with the public as a waitress and in later years was employed at the State Home and Training School in food service where she was loved and appreciated by the residents who affectionately called her "Mama Young". She attended and was a life long member of The First Christian Church. Zelma enjoyed lodge work and served as Nobel Grand of the Rebekah's where she received the high degree of chivalry for outstanding service to others. She served as Chief Matriarch of LEA, Worthy High Priestess of White Shrine and she was a member of Eastern Star Sunshine Chapter for many years. She loved to fish, read, and to be with friends. She will be missed by her family and many friends. Zelma was the youngest of six children, two brothers and three sisters that all preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by both of her husbands. She is survived by her daughter, Chella Marie (Lyman) Treadway; son, Donald (Pat) Carlson; grandchildren, Kevin J. (Rose-Ellen) Adams; Jennifer (Chris) Costigan; Charles (Mindy) Carlson, and Heather (Kyle) Riley, and nine great grandchildren. A viewing will be Thursday, January 27th from 4 - 6:00 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. A going Home celebration will be held on Friday, January 28th at 2:00 p.m. also at the mortuary. Burial will follow at the New Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita.
