Mesa Manor Care Center.
Visitation will be from 5 to
7 p.m. Thursday at Callahan-Edfast
Mortuary. Services will take
place at 11 a.m. Friday at Canyon
View Vineyards Chapel, followed
by a reception at the chapel. Private
burial will take place at New
Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita.
Mr. Haller was a Colorado state
brand inspector.
Survivors include two sons,
Gary L. of Grand Junction and
Edward E. “Eddie” of San Diego;
one daughter, Paula A. Frazier of
Cortez; six grandchildren; and
four great-grandchildren.

Earl L. Haller passed away at
age 87 of natural causes while
being cared for at Mesa Manor in
Grand Junction, CO. Earl passed
on February 13, 2011, with his
two loving sons by his side.
Born to Paul and Alma (Martin)
Haller on July 11, 1923, Earl
graduated from Fruita Union High
School in 1942, where he played
football and participated in track, winning the class A High Jump in
1941.
After serving two years in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946, Earl
returned to the lower valley of Mesa County where he resumed
breaking and training horses and hauling cattle for the first trucking
company in the area. He also loved to rodeo, competing in calf and
team roping. One of the many highlights of his rodeo career was
winning the 1990 Team Roping Championship at the Old Timer's
Rodeo Finals in Reno, NV, with his cousin J.P. "Babe" Haller. Their
close friends often referred to Babe and Earl as "Pedro" and "Poncho"
respectively.
Earl married M. Virginia Goss on October 5, 1951, and soon began
working for the Colorado State Brand Board, spending two
years in Denver and one in Springfield, CO, and subsequently returning
to his roots, where he served as Brand Inspector for Mesa
County until retiring in 1982.
Earl was preceded in death by his youngest son, Ron in 1972, and
his wife, Virginia in 1988. He leaves behind two sons, Eddie (Betty
Honey) of San Diego, CA and Gary Haller of Grand Junction, CO; a
daughter, Paula Frazier (Drew Gordanier) of Cortez, CO; seven
grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
There will be a visitation at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on Thursday,
February 17, 2011. The funeral service will be held at Canyon
View Vineyard Church at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 18, 2011.
During a private interment, Earl will be placed to rest next to Virginia
in the New Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made in
Earl's name to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, 3090
N. 12th Street, Unit B, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
Additionally, the family would like to thank everyone at Grand
Villa, Mesa Manor and Hospice for their courtesy and thoughtfulness
toward the family and for the wonderful care they gave to Earl.
