George L. Columbia, 81, Hotchkiss, died Jan. 19, 2011, at his home.

A service will be held at a later date.

He is survived by his wife, Fay; two sons, Jeff Columbia of Colorado and Bud Barrett of Arizona; two daughters, Patty Bowen of Idaho and Teresa Sharp of Texas; three brothers, DL of Washington, Don of Colorado, and Bobbie of Michigan; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

April 9, 1929 - January 19, 2011

George L. Columbia, formerly of the Yampa Valley, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at his home in Hotchkiss. He was 81.
George will be reunited with his parents, Dana and Stella Columbia; sisters Irla, Delores and Darlene; daughter Carla; and grandson Rusty.
A memorial service honoring George’s life will take place at a later date.
George was born April 9, 1929, to Dana L. and Stella (Perkins) Columbia in Canon City. He spent his childhood and attended schools in Canon City.
On June 15, 1956, George married Fay B. Lindsey in Hot Sulphur Springs. George and Fay had the honor of sharing 54 years of love and marriage. Fay survives.
George, a heavy equipment mechanic, enjoyed working and tinkering whenever he had the opportunity. More importantly, George was a devoted husband, and a loving father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Fay Columbia, of Hotchkiss; daughters Patty Bowen, of Idaho, and Teresa Sharp, of Texas; sons Jeff Columbia, of Colorado, and Bud Barrett, of Arizona; brothers DL, of Washington, Don of Colorado, and Bobbie, of Michigan. He is further survived by 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in George’s memory to the American Lung Association, 520 W. Gunnison Ave., Grand Junction, CO 81501.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
