Wayne Earl Ray, age 69, passed away December 22, 2010 at his
home in Clifton, Colorado.
Wayne was born February 13, 1941, to Earl and Louise (Laman)
Ray, in Oak Creek, Colorado. He grew up in Toponas, Colorado,
where his parents owned a sawmill. Wayne graduated from Yampa
Union High School in Yampa, Colorado in 1958.
While still in school he worked summers in the lettuce and spinach
fields and at his parents' sawmill. Following graduation, he worked
at the sawmill until 1965, when he joined the United States Air
Force. Wayne served his country in Vietnam during 1968 and 1969.
Over the years, Wayne worked for Deponti Aviation, Luxurest Furniture,
REA Express and Complete Container Services. At the time
of his death, he was working for the Salvation Army in Grand Junction.
In his youth, Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time outdoors
and assisting aunts and uncles on their ranches. In later years,
he was an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword and jigsaw
puzzles.
Wayne was married to Margaret Furry in Minnesota in 1970. They
later divorced. Wayne is survived by three sisters, Shirley (George)
Andreatta; Carol (Richard) Lisseveld, and Janet (Kit Trout);
nephew, Rick Lisseveld; nieces Mitzi (Joe) McCoy, Tammy (Scott)
Delto, great nieces and nephews, Sabrina, Dalton, Morgan, Dominic,
Trinity, Sydney, James, Austin and Temperance; aunts, Viola
Ray, Iva Laman, and Patricia Ray, numerous cousins, his Salvation
Army family and many friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at
10:00 a.m., at the Salvation Army Chapel located at 1235 North 4th
Street, Grand Junction, Colorado, 81501.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, same
address, or to a charity of the contributor's choice.
A memorial service will be held in Yampa, Colorado, at a later
date.

A memorial service for Wayne E. Ray, formerly of Toponas, is at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Yampa Ladies Aid Hall, 83 E. First St. in Yampa. It will be followed by a luncheon at the Masonic Hall, 49 W. First St. in Yampa. The family welcomes your memories of Wayne.
