James Charles Murphy passed
away February 22, 2011 at the
Veteran's Hospital. He was born
on July 21, 1931 in Annapolis,
MD to Earl and Loretta (Weaver)
Murphy. James spent his childhood
in Oklahoma City.
James joined the United States
Navy in August of 1948 and
served until July of 1952. During
this time, James served in the Korean War and received three stars
for his service. After leaving the service, James married Norma
Spadafora on April 27, 1962 and the two moved to Grand Junction,
CO, where they have been residents since that time.
James enjoyed running his small trucking business, family, yard
work, and reading.
James is survived by his wife, Norma Murphy of Grand Junction;
two sons, Courtney Murphy of Redmond, UT; Jeff (Michele)
Milovich of Grand Junction; one daughter, Valarie Kirk of Highlands
Ranch, CO; one brother, Bill Murphy of New York; one sister,
Jean Hemernik of Stockton, CA; four grandchildren, Nicholas and
Joshua Milovich, Meghann Kirk and Kelly Marcus; and one great
grandchild, Arabella Marcus.
A memorial service for James will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2011
at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado at 1:00
p.m. with Military Honors performed by the Grand Valley Combined
Honor Guard.
Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.
