Larry Klauzer of Grand Junction
was called to heaven on Easter
Sunday.
He was born on November 16,
1926 in a tarpaper shack in northeast
Carter County, Montana near
the head of Horse Creek. He was
the fifth son of Frank Sr. and
Anna Klauzer. He lived, worked
and grew up on the family ranch.
He went to Lonestar School, a one room school through the eighth
grade. He then went to the Carter County High School in Ekalaka,
Montana. In January, 1945 he enlisted in the Army and was rewarded
for doing that by being awarded a diploma by the high
school. He served in the U.S. Occupation Force in Germany until
September, 1946 and was awarded an honorable discharge and returned
to Montana where he married Ashley Corbitt and had
daughter, Marilyn. They later divorced. Larry worked for Montana
Dakota Utilities as a timekeeper. He also sold and had a second job
of selling office supplies for the local newspaper. Who would have
thought that this second job would have taken him to North Dakota
and Arizona and settling in Grand Junction in 1959 with Polly and
Randy? There he went to work for Intermountain Printing and Stationary.
Later, he started Mountain West Office Products where
Marilyn joined him in this business venture in 1976. Larry’s sales
territory was Moab, Glenwood Springs, Aspen and surrounding areas.
He had many customers that became friends and he served them
well until the sale of the business in December, 1997. He was very
proud of starting a successful business in his basement.
On February 25, 1985 Larry married Connie Jo (Preston) Bailey of
Grand Junction on the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii. They enjoyed
the next 26 years together.
Larry enjoyed the outdoors. As a young man, he was an avid
hunter in Montana and then when he moved to Colorado he enjoyed
boating, especially winning trophies in the Green River Race. He
enjoyed both water and snow skiing. Later his favorite activity was
riding his ATV’s in Eastern Utah and Western Colorado. He enjoyed
showing friends and family the trails, ghost towns and beautiful
mountains of Colorado. Another enjoyment was playing poker
with fellow Elk’s Club members in Delta. Thank you Mike and Jim
for all those Saturdays he enjoyed. Larry was truly a wheeler-dealer.
Larry is survived by his wife, Connie; his daughter, Marilyn (Richard)
Griffin of Grand Junction; son, Randy (Alice) Klauzer of
Steamboat Springs, and two brothers, Frank Jr. of Spearfish, SD,
and Ray of Willows, CA; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren,
and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a
wife, Polly; his parents; four sisters and three brothers.
A memorial service will be held Friday, August 5, 2011 at 10:00
a.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association,
