9 YEAR OLD KILLED ON HIGHWAY. Scott BOYNTON, 9-year old Gypsum youth died minutes after being struck by a truck camper on US 6 at the east edge of Gypsum Friday night at 8:55.
The boy was pronounced dead on arrival at the Glenwood hospital. He suffered internal and head injuries.
Steve [sic.] son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph BOYNTON of Gypsum, was on his way home from a school football game with two companions when the accident occurred.
Michael McCRARY, 28, of Westminster, was driver of the pickup. A passenger was John H. CONNET of Denver. The two were on a hunting trip.
The boy's companions, Tommie and Timothy QUALLS, 10 and 8, told officers they had seen the vehicle approaching from the east and didn't try to cross the road. Scott apparently looked westward but not to the east and rain into the road in the pickup's path. He was struck by the left front bumper.
McCRARY stopped immediately and CONNET jumped out and attempted to give first aid.
The BOYNTON family moved to Gypsum in June from Maine. Mr. BOYNTON is employed in construction work at Vail, and is building a new house in the Mayer Addition to Eagle.
Scott was born at Millinocket, Maine March 29, 1960. He was a member of the Catholic Church and the Cub Scouts at Eagle.
Surviving in addition to his parents are three younger brothers, Grant, Daniel, and Aaron; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick MICHAUD and Mr. and Mrs. Walter R. BOYNTON.
The funeral was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eagle Monday morning by Reverend Thomas STONE. Interment was in the Eagle cemetery.
