Randall (Randy) Kim Braatz,

1955- 2006.

Randall (Randy) Kim Braatz of Bond passed away Sept. 24 at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs, Colo.

He was born Sept. 30, 1955, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Charles and Gwen Braatz. He grew up in Waterloo, Iowa, graduated from Central High School and then attended Hawkeye Technical College where he became a certified welder.

On Dec. 2, 1977 he married Sheryl Pierce in Waterloo, Iowa. They had three children and moved to Bond, Colo. in 1989. They later divorced. While living in Bond, Randy helped in the family business “The Fireside Lodge” and was also a heavy equipment operator. Randy was a jack-of-all-trades who could fix anything and did for many people. He loved camping, hunting and snowmobiling. He was very proud of his Harley Davidson and a big fan of football and Nascar.

Randy is survived by his mother, Gwen Braatz of Bond; his two sons, Rodney, and daughter-in-law Ruthie of Laramie, Wyo., and Ryan of Bond; and one daughter, Amy, and son-in-law Mike Romero of Gypsum. Survivors also include one special son, Chad Forsythe of Waterloo, Iowa.

Randy had six grandchildren: Gabe and Kaylie Pierce of Laramie, Wyo.; Ethan Apodaca and Jayden Braatz of Gypsum; and twin grandsons of Waterloo, Iowa. Survivors also include three brothers, Tony Braatz and sister-in-law Cindy of Waterloo,Iowa, Kerry Braatz and sister-in-law Diane of Bond, and Marty Braatz and sister-in law Lori of Racine, Wisc.; and one sister, Becki Meminger and brother-in-law Mitch of Pacific, Mo.

He leaves several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and his faithful companion, Cinder. Randy was preceded in death by his father, Charles Braatz, and his grandparents.

Cremation has been chosen and memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at the McCoy Community Church on Randy’s 51st birthday. Interment will follow at the McCoy Community Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the family in a luncheon at the McCoy Legion Hut following the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Roaring Fork Hospice, P.O. Box 1970, Glenwood Springs, Colo. 81602.

RANDY BRAATZ OF BOND, 50, DIED SUNDAY

Randall “Randy” Kim Braatz of Bond died Sunday at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs. He was 50.

He was born Sept. 30, 1955, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Charles and Gwen Braatz. He grew up in Waterloo, Iowa, graduated from Central High School and then attended Hawkeye Technical College where he became a certified welder.

Braatz was preceded in death by his father, Charles Braatz, and his grandparents.
