Opal Irene Wood was born Vers
a i l l e s , M i s s o u r i ( M o r g a n
County) to Willis and Reba (Wilbanks)
Roe. She married Herald
Wood on September 29, 1937;
they later divorced.
As the ship of life sailed out of
sight when God called Opal
Wood by name, we shed tears of
goodbye. Yet on the other side of
the bend, a great reunion waited on Heaven's shores. Among others,
that reunion included her parents, Willis and Reba Roe (known as
Mom and Pop), and two sisters, Marie Hull and Gladys Roe.
Opal leaves behind two sons, Ivan (Jane) Wood of Palisade, CO
and David (Marilyn) Wood of Murrieta, CA; one daughter, Jane
(Richard) Proctor of Grand Junction, CO; two brothers, Richard and
Clifford Roe; two sisters, Naomi Youngblood and Wilma Foulk;
five grandchildren, Danny Wood, Merrideth Sieckert, Lynette
Chapman, Kenny Chapman, and Marla Wood; six great grandchildren,
and three great great grandchildren.
Opal worked in several professions through the years. She spent
many years as her last place of employment, Furr's Cafeteria. There
she was known as "the Pie-Lady", and she took great pride in slicing
those pies to perfection!
A member of Clifton Christian Church for many years, she was a
woman of unwavering faith in God, and she left footprints all over
our lives to remind us of that faith. She was fiercely protective of
her family, and loved us with a love that was only surpassed by
God's own love. Her quick wit and the sparkle in her eyes could, in a
moment, move you to laughter or tears. She was not wealthy by this
world's standards, but what a wonderfully rich heritage she left to
those of us who were touched by her life. She never realized the
legacy she wrote as she lived out her days on earth, and we will
continue to embrace that gift.
There will be a visitation for Opal on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 from
5:30 - 7:00 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. A celebration of
Opal's life will be Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Clifton
Christian Church with burial following in Palisade Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice
& Palliative Care of Western Colorado, 3090B N. 12th St.,
Grand Junction, CO 81506 or Kulpahar Children's Home, c/o Clifton
Christian Church, 615- I-70 Business Loop, Clifton, CO 81520.
