Glenwood Springs resident Marie O. BRUEN died Wednesday at Valley View Hospital. She was 75 years old.
Friends, of which there are many, said she was one of the last "grand dames." A former cover girl model "who could outdress Marilyn Monroe," they said, she lived by the phrase: "Diamonds are a girl's best friend," maintaining her impeccable clothing until she died.
She was eccentric and vivacious and loved by all, compassionate to her family and every person she ever met, friends said. A very spiritual woman, she was also quite a character and a straight shooter, never mincing words, they said.
Born in St. Louis on March 29, 1927, BRUEN was a homemaker. She also loved shopping and playing tennis. She is preceded in death by: her father, Allen DAVIS; her mother, Ophie GRAHAM; and her husband, John F. BRUEN, Jr.
Marie BRUEN is survived by: sons Michael BRUEN of Scottsdale, Ariz., and John F. BRUEN III of St. Louis; daughters Carol KIESE of Glenwood Springs, Nancy BRUEN of Eagle and Nancy BRUEN SMITH of Fennville, Mich.; and seven grandchildren.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Farnum-Holt Funeral Home in Glenwood Springs. Visiting hours are from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Memorial contributions may be to Alcoholics Anonymous.
