Guilford “Gil” Carlson passed
away at St. Mary’s Hospital on
May 3, 2011 at the age of 85.
Gil was born on June 19, 1925 in
Greeley, CO to Axel and Hulda
(Johansson) Carlson. He spent his
childhood in Northeastern, Colorado
graduating from Ault, Colorado.
He was in the US Merchant
Marine and served in the South
Pacific from 1944 - 1946. Drafted into the Army in 1951, he proudly
served his country in Korea. He graduated from Colorado A & M
(CSU) in Ft. Collins, obtaining his BS in Agricultural Engineering
in 1957.
Gil married Mary Constance “Connie” Parsons on March 15, 1951
in Greeley.
Gil’s career was spent as an Agricultural Engineer, working with
the Soil Conservation Service. After retirement he spent time in India
with the US Aid for International Development Service. He then
returned home and managed the Redlands Village Irrigation system
from 1983 - 2000.
Gil was a proud life long Colorado resident. He belonged to the
First Presbyterian Church in Grand Junction.
Gil is survived by his wife, Connie of Grand Junction; son, Jeff
(Trisha) Carlson of Aurora; daughter, Julie (Jay) Williamson of Aurora,
CO; brother, Charles Carlson of Los Angeles, CA, and four
grandchildren, Dan (Valerie) Carlson, Brian (Marisa) Carlson, Nick
Dulapa, and Elizabeth Williamson.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, May 7 at 11:00 a.m. at
the First Presbyterian Church. Reverend Tom Hansen will officiate.
Any contributions may be made to the church in Gil’s honor.
