John A. "Barney" Bailey, 91, of Denver, CO, former Grand Junction
resident, died on March 11, 2011.
John, born April 22, 1919, was reared and educated in Columbus,
Ohio. On December 8, 1941 he left his senior year of engineering
school at The Ohio State University and was commissioned to serve
in the Army Air Corps where he was a flight engineer for one the
first B-29s. During his tour in WWII he was based in India, China,
and Tinian. He returned home to marry Evelyn Moore, complete
college with a dual degree in Business and Economics, raise a family
and strived to reach the top of his career. He retired from the US
Department of the Interior in 1989.
He was preceded in death by Evelyn, February19, 2009 and is survived
by his children, Marcia B. Smith (Gregory) of Denver and
David K. Bailey (Lori) of Louisville, CO and three grandchildren,
Patrick Smith, Matthew and Victoria Bailey.
A military burial will take place at Ft. Logan National Cemetery on
Friday, March 18, where he and Evelyn will be laid to rest together.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Argyle Foundation,
4115 West 38th Avenue; Denver, CO 80212. Arrangements
entrusted to Monarch Society, Denver, Colorado.
