Victor Augustine passed away
March 8, 2011 at the Hospice
Care Center, he was 81.
Victor was born on January 4,
1930 in Dalton, NE from the
union of Earl F. and Ellen F. (Lonusbery)
Augustine. He spent his
childhood in Oregon and later enlisted
with the United States Air
Force being stationed in Alaska.
He met Frankie Murphy at a roller skate rink in Idaho Springs, CO
and the couple would marry on September 6, 1950 at the Hill Air
Force Base in Ogden, UT.
Victor was a mining supervisor and following employment, the
family lived in WY, CA and Idaho before settling for a time in
Battlement Mesa, CO. Victor worked on many interesting projects
that included the Eisenhower Tunnel, Dillon Dam as well as dams in
California and working with potash in WY. His career spanned 33
years in mining and at one time worked for Mid-Continent Resources
in Carbondale.
Family and friends remember Victor saying "It's not open for discussion."
when asked about a tattoo with the name of "Betty" was
noticed.
Victor leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Frankie Augustine of
Grand Junction and two sons, Ron Augustine of Grand Junction and
Michael Augustine of Paonia, CO and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki Smith, four brothers
and his parents.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 15,
2011 at Martin Mortuary with a visitation time from 9 - 10:00 a.m.
prior to services. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m.,
Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the Idaho Springs Cemetery, Idaho
Springs, CO.
