Funeral services for Robert G. BUFFINGTON were held Thursday, June 20, at the Trinity Baptist Church in Grand Junction. The Rev. Dean SHEPARD officiated.
Burial was in the Grand Junction Memorial Gardens. The Sowder Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He died Sunday, June 16, at Sylvan Lake, where he resided. He was 55.
Mr. BUFFINGTON was born Robert Gerald BUFFINGTON, the son of Allen Earnest and Celia Esther Simmons BUFFINGTON, on Jan. 15, 1930, at Red Cliff. Known to his many friends as "Buff," he spent his childhood in the Pando, DeBeque and Rifle communities. He attended school at Pando, the Roan Creek rural school and the Beaver Creek rural school.
He was united in marriage with Ethel WELLS on Oct. 14, 1952, at Vernal, Utah. Later he was united in marriage with Betty J. Chevalier KIRBY on Sept. 7, 1974 at Eagle.
Mr. BUFFINGTON was a truck driver by profession, having established his own trucking company Buff's Trucking Company. During his earlier life, he had worked in sawmills at Vail for the Fleming Lumber Company, and at the Rippy and Edmond sawmill on Coffee Pot; worked as a heavy equipment operator in road construction; worked for Continental Oil Company at one of its mine sites and worked as a truck driver for Mid-Continent at its lime quarry hauling lime to the Basic Chemical Plant in Glenwood Springs.
He was presently working near Sylvan Lake in Eagle County, hauling logs to the sawmill near Dotsero. Mr. and Mrs. BUFFINGTON maintained a home in Rifle for many years. Buff enjoyed being with his family and also listening and playing western music, in which he played the guitar.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Betty COOK.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; three daughters, Mrs. William (Roberta) Kesinger of Grand Junction, Mrs. James (Celia) DOWD of DeBeque and Sandra KIRBY of Waitsfield, Vt.; two sons, Don KIRBY of Yampa and Monte KIRBY of Rifle; his mother, Mrs. Celia BUFFINGTON of Grand Junction; a brother, Allen L. BUFFINGTON of Grand Junction; three sisters, Mrs. Robert (Arvilla) KISER of Grand Junction, Mrs. George (Etta Lou) Macdonell of Carbondale and Mrs. Don (Mona) ULLERICK of McCoy; 10 grandchildren; other relatives; and many friends.
