Delta resident, Noel Marvin
Overman, passed away on May 6,
2011 at Willow Tree Care Center.
He was 92.
A memorial service honoring
Noel's life will be held at 2:00
p.m., Thursday, May 26, 2011 at
the First Baptist Church of Delta
with Pastor Kenny Pettis presiding.
A private inurnment will take
place at the Delta City Cemetery.
Mr. Overman was born in Beloit, Kansas on August 11, 1918 to
George William and Ruby Overman. Noel was educated in Beloit,
receiving a diploma from Kansas Public Schools. Noel moved to
Delta to marry Lois Johns, Lois had recently moved with her parents
from Beloit, KS. Noel and Lois were married on July 8, 1939.
Lois preceded him in death. Noel married Edna Allen on February
27, 1992.
Mr. Overman enlisted in the United States Navy on June 29, 1944,
serving as a carpenter on the USS Bergen until January 30, 1946.
Mr. Overman managed the Safeway store in Delta until he was
hired by City Market as an All Purpose Clerk on June 9, 1951. Noel
served as Asst. Manager until he assumed the position of Manager
for 12 years until his retirement on August 18, 1979.
Mr. Overman was a member of Elks, Kiwanis and The American
Legion. Noel volunteered for Meals on Wheels, delivered medical
equipment plus numerous other projects.
Mr. Overman enjoyed bowling, playing cards, gardening, reading,
fishing and boating. Mr. Overman's true passion was sports. His favorite
was the Braves; he went to Baseball Spring training in Arizona
and spent several vacations attending baseball and football
games. He will be remembered for giving his children a truly
blessed childhood.
Mr. Overman is survived by his wife, Edna Overman of Delta; a
son, Danny Overman of Fruita; two daughters and their husbands,
Betty and Gary Doudy of Grand Junction, and Shirley and Kenneth
Tucker of Durango; a step-son and wife, James and Beverly Allen of
Berryville, Arkansas; a step-daughter and husband, Evelyn and John
Randall of Cheyenne, WY; two sisters, Ilene Machos of Nampa, ID,
and Elaine McEntire of Caldwell, Idaho; one brother, Jerome Overman
of Emmett, Idaho; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren,
and four great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Overman was preceded in death by his parents, George Will
and Ruby Overman; wife, Lois Overman; two brothers, Kenneth and
Norman Overman, and a step-son, Kenny Allen.
The family suggests memorials to be made in Mr. Overman's
memory to the charity of your choice.
