Richard Eugene Werling Sr.
passed from this life into eternity
in Salt Lake City, Utah May 4,
2011. As a young man of 23, he
beat brain cancer but for the past
ten years he has battled the late
effects of the cancer treatments.
He is now rejoicing with his Lord
and Savior. He is no longer here,
but can be found in the hearts of
those who love him.
Richard was born September 19,
1954 in Grand Junction, Colorado
to Richard Allen and Gertrude
Werling. He loved living on
the farm on 25 Road as a child,
and cherished the times of fishing
and hunting with his family. He
graduated from Fruita Monument
High School in 1973, marrying
the love of his life, and high
school sweetheart, Laura Wilkie.
He was a graduate of Clear Creek Baptist Bible College, Pineville
Kentucky in 1979, and ordained shortly thereafter. He continued in
the ministry until his health declined. He felt blessed to live to see
his children grow to adulthood. Richard worked as a farmhand, grocery
clerk, landscaper, retail associate, and pastor. His humorous,
caring, and loving manner endeared him to those he ministered to
and worked with in Colorado, Kentucky and Maryland.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Laura; children, Richard
Werling, Jr.; Tanya (Alan) Capriotti, of Salt Lake, and Matthew
(Amy) Werling of Elkridge, Maryland; grandchildren, Brandon,
Nathan, Devin and Steven Capriotti; and Ashley and Jacob Werling.
He is also survived by sisters, Hazel Bauman and Laura (Wayne)
Smith, and brother, Gary Werling, of Grand Junction, Colorado. He
was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 7,
2011 at the Goff Mortuary 8090 S. State St., Salt Lake City, Utah.
A viewing for friends and family will be held one hour prior to services.
Cremation to follow services, with interment and graveside
memorial at 11:00 a.m., May 14, 2011 at Orchard Mesa Cemetery,
in Grand Junction, Colorado. H block, hillside.
