Corky was born in Heber, Utah
to Glen and Francis Linn. They
lived in Park City, Utah for a short
time and moved to an area around
Globe, Arizona where his father
did hard rock mining. When he
was still very young they moved
to Rico, Colorado where his father
built the Van Winkle mine.
They moved again to Cameo and
Corky went to the 9th grade there. While his father still worked
there they moved to Collbran where his mother's brothers had homesteaded
and Glen and Francis were able to purchase one of the
homesteads from her brother. Corky attended high school there and
graduated in 1948. After bumming around for the summer he joined
the Navy in November of 1948. He served 3 years and after discharge
married Billie. Shortly after they were married he was called
back for the Korean War and was overseas for the duration. After
being discharged he was thinking of becoming a police officer in
L.A. but decided to come back home for a few months. He saw an
ad for help at Inter-Mountain Printing and figured he could work
awhile and earn a little money. That temporary job turned out to last
24 years in which he became the best salesman they ever had. He
didn’t think he could do it because in his words he was just a "dumb
farm kid" with no extended vocabulary. After retiring from
Inter-Mountain, in which by this time he had a percentage of the
ownership, he purchased the H-Motel in Fruita. It was a business
that took 24/7 of your time. Corky was an avid motorcyclist at one
time, and he and Arnold Feller built boats to run the river and did
rescue work for the Boat Rally for years and also was called upon by
the Sheriff's Dept. when someone was lost on the river.
He took up flying and was famous for his wreck on the river when
he cut threw a power line for the Gilsonite factory. After selling the
motel he went back to golfing an activity he had no time for before.
He began a senior men's club at Adobe Creek and ran it for several
years even when he could no longer play golf. He was a wonderful
husband and father. He is survived by his wife Ina Linn, three
daughters, Tara Linn, Deana Weaver, and Glenna Coleman., three
grandchildren Taylor Petersen, Trenton Coleman and Kylie Coleman,
also his first wife Billie Jarrett the girls mother who has always
been very close to everyone. I also can't forget our puppy
“Elli". He had never wanted a dog, especially in the house and she
made him a complete push-over and spoiled her terribly.
A service of remembrance followed by a reception will be 1:00
p.m., Saturday, March 19 at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary Chapel.
Private interment has taken place at Veterans Memorial Cemetery of
Western Colorado. Contributions can be made to Hospice &
Palliative Care of Western Colorado, 3090B No. 12th St., Grand
