Raymond Joseph Schuster,
78, Palisade, died March 12,
2011, at Hospice Care Center.
A rosary will be said at 9 a.m.
Saturday at St. Ann’s Catholic
Church in Palisade, followed
by a memorial mass at 9:30 a.m.
Interment will be at Immaculate
Heart Catholic Church Columbarium
after the service.
Mr. Schuster was a civil mining
engineer.
Survivors include his wife,
Janine; a son, Jeff of Highlands
Ranch; fi ve daughters, Katie
Sickles of Cedaredge, Sandy
Schuster of Chesterbrook, Pa.,
Sue Ayotte of Fort Collins, Julie
Crocco of Price, Utah, and
Gail Schuster of Denver; three
brothers, Leo and Bruce, both
of Denver, and Leroy of Beloit,
Kan.; one sister, Arline Young of
Denver; 12 grandchildren; and
three great-grandchildren.

Ray Schuster passed away
March 12,2011, at the Hospice
Care Center after a lengthy illness.
Ray was born and raised in Denver,
Colorado. His parents were
Leo J. and Bernice M. Schuster.
Ray attended Bancroft Elementary
School, St. Francis de Sales High School, St. Thomas Seminary,
and Colorado School of Mines. He studied mining engineering at the
Colorado School of Mines. Ray served in the Army during the Korean
conflict and was honorably discharged.
Ray married Agnes Shircel in 1958 and his six children survive.
The marriage ended in divorce and in 1980 Ray married Janine who
survives.
Ray owned a civil engineering and land surveying business in Cedaredge
before moving to the Grand Valley in 1984. In the Grand
Valley Ray was the manager of the Clifton Water District for 12
years; worked as a resident engineer for Ute Water District; served
as the temporary manager of the Orchard Mesa Irrigation District;
and was the water treatment plant operator for the Town of Palisade
for a short while. His seasonal job of over 30 years was playing
Santa for individuals, families, and businesses.
Ray was involved in multiple professional political, and civic organizations.
He volunteered hundreds of hours as a worker, officer,
and board member for many organizations. His passion for writing
and telling stories brought him into the Mesa County Spellbinders
organization.
Ray leaves behind his wife, Janine; daughters, Katie (Dan) Sickles,
Sandy Schuster, Sue Ayotte, Julie (Johnny) Crocco, and Gail
Schuster; son, Jeff (Lisa) Schuster; sister, Arline (Bay) Young;
brothers, Leo (Rosemary) Schuster, Leroy (Estelle) Schuster, Bruce
(Jane) Schuster; 12 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, March 19, 2011:
9:00 a.m. Rosary; 9:30 a.m. Memorial Mass at St. Ann's Catholic
Church in Palisade. Interment will follow at Immaculate Heart of
Mary Columbarium.
