Obituaries

Grand Junction Daily Sentinel page 3C - May 15, 2011

Randy was born in Oklahoma City, the youngest child of William
and Della Nichols. In spite of health issues, he was a joyful child.
He learned to read and ride a bike. He enjoyed riding his sister's
horse. He was fond of animals, especially cats. Randy loved music
and was happiest of all when singing with his family while his
mother played the piano. Randy loved Jesus and was baptized into
Christ by his father at the old Palisade Christian Church.
Randy went to live at the former State Home and Training School.
The residents and staff there became his second family. He had a
busy life which included attending classes, going to dances and
movies and many recreational activities in the community. Randy's
favorite treats were Pepsi and chocolate.
Randy was highly regarded by his caregivers and deeply loved by
his family. Throughout his lifetime of physical infirmities, Randy
maintained his sweet spirit. His personality was made more colorful
by that small streak of stubbornness. Randy's life was not in vain.
He was, in fact, our teacher. From him we learned "love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control"
(Galatians 5:22).
Randy is survived by his brother, Steve Nichols of Helena, MT; his
sister, Lynette Ross of Grand Junction, CO; his step-father, William
Weiss of Cheyenne Wyoming, and many nieces and nephews. "Forgetting
what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on
toward the goal, to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward
in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:13, 14). Our family appreciates
all the doctors, nurses and compassionate staff of the Grand
Junction Regional Center who cared for Randy with such concern
and devotion over these many years.
A funeral service will be held at the Appleton Christian Church on
Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Orchard
Mesa Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Claws Animal Shelter at
2214 Sanford Drive #A-5, Grand Junction, CO 81505. Arrangements
are under the direction of Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.
