Norma Jean (Woods) Cooper, age 80, was born to Homer M.
Woods and Maude (Dunlap) Woods on August 9, 1930 in Rifle,
Colorado and left our world late on Thursday. She was the third
child born to them and lived in Rifle, Uravan, Grand Junction and
her longtime residence in Nucla.
Norma Jean met her husband, Spooks, while attending nurse's
training with his sister, Rachel Blair. She married Earnest “Spooks”
Cooper on October 4, 1953 in Nucla, Colorado at the Union Congregational
Church. They made their home in Nucla on the Cooper
Ranch and had three children together, Tim (Kim), Paul (Cammy)
and Kathy (Mark) Chiono. They have five grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren.
Norma Jean served as the Montrose County health nurse and the
school nurse as well as being a rancher's wife. Plenty of hard work
and fun were woven throughout her years. She enjoyed playing in
the local card clubs and was a member of the Bethany Chapter #148,
Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband, Spooks; her children and their
spouses, Tim and Kim; Paul and Cammy; Kathy and Mark; grandchildren,
Kristen (Sid) Ward and four children of Richfield, Idaho;
Shanna (Rowdy) Buniger and three children of Fruita, Colorado;
Chelsea (fiancée, Tyler Cox) Chiono of Montrose, Colorado; Katie
Cooper of Norwood, Colorado and Timmy Cooper of McFadden,
Wyoming; her brothers, Morris Woods of Burleson, Texas; Stan
(Dixie) Woods of Missoula, Montana and Wayne (Barbara) Woods
of Denver, Colorado; and many nieces, nephews and friends who
will all miss her easy smile and sweet demeanor. She is preceded in
death by her parents and one grandson, Brandon Michael Cooper.
Services are scheduled for 11:00 on Tuesday, May 17th at the
Union Congregational Church with internment to follow at the Nucla
Cemetery.
