D.L. Jim Easter was born,
Dwight Leon Easter to W.H.
Easter and Lena Fowler Easter in
Los Angeles, California, December
9, 1929. He was the youngest
child born into a family of ten.
Jim spent his childhood in Los
Angeles and Van Nuys, with
many adventure filled days cent
e r e d a r o u n d T h e A n g e l e s
Temple. In his young adult years he began his enjoyment of owning
and working on nice cars. The love of singing inspired him throughout
his life. Jim was a hard working and successful businessman
known for his expertise in industrial sandblasting and painting of oil
and water tanks. He became know as a Corrosion Engineer inspecting
projects all around Colorado.
He was married to Mary Eloise Malone for 20 years. They had
three children, Greg of Montana, Brad of California, and Jeff of
Florida. They later divorced. In 1969, Jim married Sandra Daley in
Las Vegas, Nevada. In their 41 plus years of marriage, they enjoyed
taking many trips visiting national parks and camping with the children.
One of Jim's favorite pastimes was riding his motorcycle on
quiet mountain roads and visiting the cabin in Pine Flats California.
After retirement they spent many winters in Arizona.
Jim had four step children, Dene, of Sacramento, California; Kim,
of Bakersfield, California; Dan of Yuma, Arizona and Shelly of
Loma, Colorado. He had 17 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren
who he enjoyed so very much. One of his passions for the
last 30 years of his life was to pray for all of his family, loving to
share his wisdom with his grandchildren with plenty of humor along
with it.
Jim Easter passed away Thursday March 24, 2011 at the Hospice
Palliative Care Center Grand Junction, Colorado after struggling for
several years with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Jim was preceded in death
by his parents and siblings, Eldon, Donald, Willard, Richard, Evelyn
Mc Knight, Wilmeth Caber, Roberta Carter and grandson, Andrew
Charles Erkman.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; sisters, Dorothy Williams and
Aimee Cook; his children and his step children.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday March 28,
2011, 2:00 p.m. at New Horizons Four Square Church Grand Junction,
Colorado with burial following at Elmwood Cemetery in
Fruita. There will be a time of visitation from 1 - 2:00 p.m. at the
Church before the service. Memorial contributions to Hospice &
