Anchorage, Alaska resident, William “Bill” Ferguson died peacefully
at the Anchorage Pioneer Home at the age of 92 on November
22, 2010.
A graveside service will be held at the Palisade Cemetery on Monday,
March 28th at 1:00 p.m. Bill was born to Walter O. and Dorothy
Cook Ferguson in Mullenville, Kansas on July 27, 1918. Bill
spent most of his youth living with his family in Clifton and other
small farming communities on the western slope of Colorado. He
was very proud to have been the state of Colorado Spelling Bee
champion. He graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1936.
Before enlisting in the Army, he managed a small grocery store in
Grand Junction, Colorado, established a milk delivery route in Aspen,
Colorado and worked in the peach orchards throughout the
western slope. After WWII he sold auto parts, and was a payroll
clerk for Loudermilk Construction Company. He first went to
Alaska in 1941 as a soldier but returned to Alaska in 1969 where he
enjoyed selling real estate throughout the state until he retired in
1998.
His friends and family will remember him as being ,"smart with
numbers, very funny and always ready to go to lunch". He enjoyed
gold mining, fine artwork, gardening, making jewelry, camping and
fishing.
He is preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers, one sister,
and nephews, Kevin and Jonathan Ferguson. He is survived by
many who loved him, Keith and Betty Ferguson, Doris Ferguson
and family, Bryan and Brent Ferguson and their families, James
Ferguson and his family, Rebecca Clement, Beverly Tallman, Pat
Irvin and Bid Irvin and their families.
Memorials are to be of the donor's choice in his name.
