Virginia Maldonado passed
away and joined her husband on
May 26, 2011. Virginia was born
February 6, 1944 in Salida, Colorado.
She was the daughter of Joe
and Josephine (Casias) Romero
and Angelo Garduno.
Virginia lived in New Mexico
before moving with her family to Colorado. She worked with her
family in the harvest fields. Virginia attended Fruita Monument
High School. She met and married Albert Maldonado when the
family moved to Grand Junction. Virginia worked at the Best Western
Sandman Motel where she was Head Housekeeper before retiring
in 2004.
Virginia was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She enjoyed
cooking, fishing, bingo, traveling to other cities, and listening
to music; she loved her pet cats. Virginia enjoyed family and friends
visiting her home, where she would cook them a good meal. The
biggest joy was the birth of her children, grandchildren, and
great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Albert Maldonado, Diana (Mike)
Thorpe Sr., and Robert Maldonado; her step-father, Joe Romero;
sisters, Alma Bera, Angie (Ben) Sawyer, Bernice (Mac) Bera and
Pauline (Leo) Cisneros; grandchildren, Niki, Ginny, Amanda, Mikey
and Angel, and great-grandchildren, Angelina, Diego, Cloe and Selena.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; mother,
Josephine; brother, Steven Romero, and brother-in-law, Johnny
Bera.
A rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1st,
at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Interment will be at the Grand Junction
Municipal Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 2nd.
