After a long illness, Kenneth
Eugene Bounds passed away on
Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the
Palisade Living Center, Palisade,
CO while surrounded by his loving
family. Kenneth was born on
May 28, 1926 in Weatherford, TX
the son of Audit Murphy Bounds
and Jesse Lee Crow Bounds.
Kenneth married Ollie Sue
Sylvester on June 11, 1943 and celebrated his love for her every day
for 68 years.
Ken and Sue moved to Grand Junction, CO in 1959 and soon after
owned and operated for the next 24 years a local Clifton, CO landmark
- The Overpass Store. During these years, Ken also owned and
operated Bounds & Sons Trucking, Sand & Gravel before finally
retiring in 1988.
Ken treasured the beautiful Colorado mountains and hunting and
fishing on the Grand Mesa. In retirement, Ken loved to travel, and
he and Sue set out on many adventures throughout the US and
Mexico visiting friends and family - always stopping lakeside to
catch the next "big one". Ken never turned down an opportunity to
play Spades or Dominoes enjoying those moments around the
kitchen table with family and friends.
Ken is survived by Ollie Sue, the love of his life; and six children,
his sons, Joseph (Mavis); Michael (Brenda); Audit (Kim), and Steve
(Virginia) all reside in Grand Junction, CO. His daughters, Bonnie
Clark resides in Grand Junction and LaGayle Atwell (Robert) resides
in Phoenix, AZ. His sister, Jessie Lee Dodson resides in Alice,
TX. Ken has 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and many
beloved nieces and nephews.
Ken is preceded in death by his parents, Audit and Jessie Lee
Bounds; his brother, Joe Bounds; his sisters, Lucille Tate White and
Audrey Bounds; his stillborn daughter, Linda Gail Bounds; his
granddaughter, Letytia Lupton, and his great-grandson, Aiden Lee
Miller.
Visitation will be hosted at the Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on
Wednesday, May 25 2011 from 6 - 8:00 p.m. Services are scheduled
for Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Gospel Ministries
Church (1622 Glenwood Avenue - corner of 17th &
Glenwood). Burial will be at the Palisade Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western
Colorado are appreciated. The Bounds family extends their
deepest appreciation to the wonderful doctors, nurses, and loving
caregivers at Hospice and Palisade Living Center who cared for Ken
during his illness.
May the Love of our Lord bring peace to Ken and his family.
