Myrna Lee Overlease of Hotchkiss passed away on Sunday, June
5, 2011. She was 80.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 11 at 10:00 a.m. at
the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Delta.
Myrna was born November 10, 1930 in Stratton, CO to George and
Wilma Smelker. She attended school until she met the love of her
life, John Overlease. They were married in Goodland, KS on February
21, 1947. They celebrated 64 years of marriage. She worked as a
school cook for four years in Evergreen, CO before moving to
Hotchkiss where they farmed/ranched. She was a talented sewer and
cook who enjoyed growing a large garden. Myrna loved to crochet
and work her daily crossword puzzles. She kept a cookie drawer
which was a very special treat for her grandchildren. She was quite
the fisher-woman and her grandchildren have fond memories of
their trips. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren
unconditionally regardless of how far away they lived.
Myrna was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church until she
became homebound.
Myrna was blessed with five children, Mary Lee, James, Rick,
Janice and Julie. Her children then blessed her with 13 grandchildren,
Rachel (James), Rebekah (Brian), Ruth (Stig), Jacob (Jen),
Jenny (Jim), Olin (Alburnie), Jodie, Angela, Aaron, Codi (Denise),
Keenan, Tasha (Tom) and Jessie (Uriel). She also had eight
great-grandchildren that she was very proud of, Calvin, Jonae, Cole,
Jimmy, Erica, Emerick, Aiden and Myrna. She was also very excited
to be expecting three more great-grandchildren due in fall.
Myrna is survived by her husband, John Overlease of Hotchkiss;
sons, James (Ann) of Eagle and Rick (Sandra) of Ely, NV; daughters,
Janice (Kim) Tribble of Olathe and Julie (David) Bonine of
Delta; all grandchildren, great-grandchildren and sisters, Verla Martinez
of Colorado Springs; Lola Overlease of Laird, and Velma
McArthur of Haigler, NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Frank Smelker;
sisters, Vivian Whitmarsh, Arva Campbell, Twila Smelker, Una
Reed, and baby daughter, Mary Lee.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice
and Palliative Care of Western CO, PO Box 24, Delta, CO 81416.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral
Service and Crematory.
