Myron John Howitt, 70,
Fruita, died Aug. 2, 2011, at Salt
Lake City Veterans Hospital.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11
a.m. Wednesday at Martin Mortuary,
with services at 11 a.m. at
the mortuary. Burial will follow
at 1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial
Cemetery of Western Colorado.
Mr. Howitt was a consultant.
Survivors include wife Lora;
one son, Myron Keith of Fruita;
two daughters, Diane Emer of
Placerville, Calif., and Pamela
Girk of Broomfi eld; two brothers,
Kenneth of Georgetown,
Texas and James; seven grandchildren
and six great-grandchildren.

Myron "Mike" John Howitt, II,
passed away quietly at the Salt
Lake City Veterans Hospital with
his family by his side. He was 79
years old.
Mike was born February 14,
1932, in Julesburg, Colorado. He
attended school in Julesburg and
graduated from the Sedgwick
County High School in May,
1950. He was active in sports and the band as well as being a member
of the Boy Scouts of America. Mike and Lora Bodenstedt were
married December 24, 1951. In 1952, Mike was drafted into the
Army during the Korean War.
Mike returned to Julesburg where he worked in retail in the Colorado
Nebraska areas. In 1958, Mike moved the family to Denver,
Colorado. He quickly advanced up the corporate ladder as a consultant.
He attended CU and eventually received his doctorate from
MIT. His consulting profession took Mike and Lora all over the
United States, as well as several South American, African and European
countries. In 1993, Mike retired and they moved to Mesa, Arizona.
They returned to Colorado in 1999, actively participating in
the community of Fruita, CO. He spent his time volunteering for the
City Council. He was the Board Director for the non-profit group
"Lower Valley Seniors Inc.", working both locally and at the state
levels for the benefit of the valleys seniors. As an American Legion
member, Mike won the prestigious award of "Department Membership
Recruiter of the Year" 2010.
Mike is survived by his wife, Lora; his son, Myron Keith Howitt,
of Fruita, CO; his daughters, Diane Emer of Placerville, CA, and
Pamela Girk of Broomfield, CO; his brothers, Kenneth of Georgetown,
TX and James Howitt of NE; as well as seven grandchildren
and six great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Martin
Mortuary between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. Following the visitation
at 11:00 a.m. , a funeral service will be held in the Chapel at Martin
Mortuary. There will be a brief graveside service at 1:00 p.m. at the
Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery on Riverside Parkway.
