Kristina L. (Mallette) Garcia, 44, lifelong resident of Leadville, passed away in Denver on April 24. She was born on Nov. 8, 1967, to Jon and Barbara Mallette in Denver. She married Joshua D. Garcia on Aug. 25, 2006, in Georgetown.

Kristina earned a bachelor's degree in mass communications from the University of Denver. Her professional life included activities director at a retirement community, pharmaceutical sales rep and, recently, assistant at the Leadville Veterinary Clinic. She was a member of the Leadville Chapter of P.E.O. She loved gardening, beading, taking care of animals, laughing and spending time with her family. Kristina was an intensely caring friend.

Kristina found great comfort in Psalm 62:5-8: “ … My hope comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; He is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge.”

She is survived by her loving husband Joshua D. Garcia, of Leadville; father Jon Mallette, of Rosalie, Neb.; mother Barbara Carson Mallette, of Leadville; uncle Charles Carson, of Grand Junction, and cousin Nicole Clotworthy, of Denver. She is preceded in death by her brother Howard, grandparents Earl and Anna Belle Carson and Ray and Gladys Mallette and her aunt Mary Clotworthy.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Community Church of Leadville with Pastor Carey Green officiating. Burial was at Elks Rest Cemetery in Leadville with a reception following at Leadville Elks Lodge No. 236. Contributions may be made to The Denver Hospice, 501 South Cherry St., Suite 700, Denver, CO 80246. Bailey-Kent Funeral Home of Leadville assisted the family with arrangements.
