Longtime McCoy resident Frank Andrew Ault, born June 22, 1900, near Dillon, died July 16 in Overton, Nev. He was the oldest child of Perry and Lelah Smith Ault.
A memorial service was July 21 at Calvary Community Church and graveside services were conducted July 23 by the Egeria Masonic Lodge at the Yampa Cemetery.
In 1908, the Ault family moved to a farm on the Colorado River four miles below McCoy, where Ault's father raised apples, corn and other produce. He hauled it to Yampa and Oak Creek by wagon and sold it directly to the families living there.
Ault attended country schools in the McCoy area. On April 29, 1924, he married Leila Olive Ferguson of Hayden, who had been teaching at the country one-room school. In 1927 they homesteaded on Red Dirt Creek, five miles south of Toponas.
Shortly before World War II, Ault started working for Western Construction Co. in its timber production division. He was foreman for a crew of German prisoners of war who were based in Fraser. He later was foreman of Reif Lumber Co. in the Kremmling area.
Ault was a member of the Egeria Lodge of the Masonic Order, the Colorado Grand Lodge, and he held the office of District Lecturer for Northwest Colorado for many years.
In 1972, the Aults started spending their winters in the Overton area. Mrs. Ault died in 1974, and Ault sold the family home and lived summers in Yampa and winters in Overton. In 1981, he began living full time in Overton because he could no longer live in high altitude.
Ault is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James A. and Joanne of Rochester, N.Y.; a foster daughter and her husband, Joan Van Matre Barrera and Daniel Barrerra of Santa Fe, N.M.; three granddaughters, Kathleen Ault of Rochester, Virginia Johnson of Tucson, Ariz., and Carol Ault of Kenai, Alaska; one great-grandson, Charles Ault of Sulpher, La.; and one great-granddaughter, Tiffany Ault of Kenai, Alaska.
Also surviving is a brother, Howard, of Canon City; three sisters, Ethel Evans of Bellingham, Wash., Olive Barrow of Belfair, Wash.; and Lucy Law of Moab, Utah; as well as his son Ralph's widow, Shirley, of Nikiski, Alaska.
Ault's wife, Leila; a son, Ralph; a grandson, Frank Ault; and three sisters, Elizabeth, Dora and Aletha, preceded him in death.
