Despite Winifred's obituary listing Dec. 31, 1916 as the wedding date. The following references indicate that Alfred and Winifred were married prior to that date:. Routt County Sentinel, December 29, 1916, page 5: "Albert Hitchens went to Steamboat last Friday, being accompanied home by his wife, who is teaching the Fairplay school and who had been attending the county examination of teachers." Three Wire Winter Magazine, Issue #21, Winter 1986, pg. 10 : "Albert and Winnie were married December 3, 1916 at Pool Colorado."

ALBERT HITCHENS: 1892-1985

Albert Ray Hitchens, 92, of Lacey Springs, Va., passed away on Thursday night, Oct. 24, 1985, at the Routt Memorial Hospital following a short illness. Albert was living with his daughter, Wilma A. Watkins in Virginia and visiting relatives in Steamboat Springs at the time of his death. Mormon services, conducted by the Meeker Stake LDS and Bishop David Monsen, were held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Steamboat Springs on Monday, Oct. 28, at 11 a.m. Interment was in the Steamboat Springs Cemetery with the bishop dedicating the grave. Included in the services were prelude by Margaret Guzzle, invocation by Bishop Aaron Woodward, eulogy by Bishop Monsen. The speaker was H. G. Berthelson and the postlude was given by Guzzle. Hold Thou My Hand. Music also included an organ solo by Guzzle, including Missouri Waltz, The Band Played On, and In the Shade of the Old Apple Tree. Pallbearers were Wayne, Glen and Wade More, Dean Hitchens, Jim Watkins, Lance Frisby and Arnold Holly. Honorary bearers were Buster More, Dale Frisby and Don Zulian.Bom on Nov. 28, 1892 in Poole, he was the youngest of eight children born to James Henry and Emma Blight Hitchens. He married Winifred Imogene Callahan of Woodward, lowa who preceded him in death in 1950.

On Feb. 6, 1953 he married Deloris Ottosen Frisby of Meeker. She passed away in 1983. He was nearing 60 years as a member of Odd Fellows Lodge 131 at the time of his death. He held memberships in the National Grange Association and had served on the Milner School Board and board of directors of the Yampa ValleyCo-op.

He lived in the Milner area as a farmer and rancher most of his life until retiring in 1960. He then moved to Meeker and Mesa, Ariz., returning to Routt County to ranch during the summers. He leaves two sons, Melvin Hitchens of Steamboat Springs and Errold Hitchens of Milner; one daughter, Wilma Watkins of Lacey Springs, Va.; nine grandchildren and two step grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and two step- great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Dorothy Jean Hitchens More, who passed away Dec. 28,1966. The family requests memorial donations be given to the Steamboat Springs Lion’s Club program for prevention of blindness, in care of Bob Ralston, Box 774138, Steamboat Springs, 80477.
