More and Green Sixty-seven years ago on Nov. 28, 1939, Alfred LaVergne More, 91, and Virginia Green, 86, eloped in Manila, Utah, in Vergne's dad's Ford truck with their best friends Frank and Alice Smith along as witnesses. Virginia was just 19 years old and Vergne was 24 years old. Virginia's parents William S. and Elizabeth Green lived on the Williams Fork on the Crags Ranch. Virginia's grandfather homesteaded the Crags Ranch in 1895 which is now one of the few centennial ranches left in Colorado, and is still owned by her nephew Jerry Green. Vergne's folks, Frank S and Ada Alice More, lived in Pleasant Valley on the ranch that is now known as Catamount Ranch. Vergne and Virginia More are third generation Coloradoans. They have resided in Hayden, Craig, Steamboat Springs, Rifle, and Fort Collins during their Colorado adventures. They retired to Craig in 1979 and now live at the Walbridge Wing of the Pioneer's Hospital in Meeker. Vergne is an army veteran of WWII. Vergne worked as a heavy equipment operator for Larimer County and the City of Fort Collins for 27 years. He was a very accomplished operator of loaders and maintainers and was instrumental in building Cameron Pass road. Virginia worked as a cook and restaurant manager for various restaurants including the historic Harbor Hotel Cafe in Steamboat and Vern's Cafe in Fort Collins. A host of loyal fans would follow Virginia's cooking as she moved from one restaurant to another. Vergne and Virginia raised three children, Larry More of Craig, Jody Bernard of Phoenix, AZ, and Judy More (deceased). They have three grandchildren, Michelle Billingsley, Kati More and Melanie Smith. They have long shared many hobbies together. Had "Dancing with the Stars" been around during their younger years, they could have competed on the show dancing their famous waltzes and polkas during their management of Mishawaka Inn Resort in the Poudre Canyon, and then at the Moose Hall in Fort Collins every Saturday night. They bowled together for many years and planted and maintained one of the most beautiful gardens in Fort Collins. Friends and relatives are invited to help them celebrate their special 67th anniversary at an open house at the Walbridge Wing in Meeker on Sunday, Nov. 26 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
