Born in Bentonville, Arkansas on October 17, 1892, he came with his family to Steamboat Springs in the fall of 1913. He served in the armed forces during the first World War.

On April 14, 1921, he married Grace REMINGTON of Denver, Colorado. The couple made their home in Steamboat, where they have lived for more than a half century. He, along with his brother Auburn, had the Chrysler and Plymouth garage for many years before retiring several years ago.

Claude was the first of the LUEKENS brothers to arrive in Steamboat from Longmont, traveling over the mountains in 1913. During the next ten years he was employed in all 3 of the Steamboat's drug stores.

His interest in automobiles dates from 1923, when he had a Hupmobile agency. In the following year, he purchased the garage building and Dodge agency owned by Herb Williams. Brother Auburn arrived in 1929 and for 37 years was in partnership with his brother. Claude retired in 1967 and Auburn about a year later.

For 16 years, Claude was the mayor of Steamboat. He served for 24 years as County Commissioner. Other important offices he held included membership on the Colorado State Advertising and Publicity Committee, past president of the Colorado County Commissioners Association and chairman of the Colorado State Highway Advisory Board.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Leo Hill Post 44, American Legion, Steamboat Lion's Club, Steamboat Winter Sports Club, Chamber of Commerce and Steamboat Health and Recreation Association.
