John D. Crawford, Pioneer County Official, Dies In Denver Hospital

Word was received late Wednesday afternoon of the death in Denver of John D. Crawford, for many years county clerk and recorder for Routt county. Mr. Crawford had been in ill health for some time prior to his retirement from office last January 8, and had gone to Denver to visit with his sister, Mrs. C. W. Pritchett.

His intention had been to continue his journey to North Dakota where he was to visit his son, Jamie Crawford. Ill health kept him in Denver, however, and a sudden turn for the worse caused him to be taken to St. Joseph's hospital where he died Wednesday afternoon.

James Crawford had been notified of his father's illness and was with him at the time of his death. A.W. Heyer went to Denver for the body and funderal arrangements will be made after arrival in Steamboat Springs.

John D. Crawford was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James H. Crawford, founders of Steamboat Springs, and grew up with the town. He loved the out of doors and had made many plans for locating mining claims as soon as spring opened up. For the past 30 years he had been connected with the county clerk and recorder's office, two years as deputy and 28 years as the elected officer.

His entire thought during his many years in office was for duty to the office and for many years he never missed a day being at his desk.

In addition to his son, Mr. Crawford is survived by his sister, Mrs. C. W. Pritchett, a brother, Logan Crawford, now in California, and two nieces, Margaret and Lulita Pritchett of Denver
