Steamboat Springs resident Amy Joy Flint died in an automobile accident Feb. 16, 2007. She was 37.
Amy had lived in Steamboat for 16 years and was known for her involvement in local dance community productions, St. Paul's Episcopal Church and as a mortgage broker with GMAC Mortgage.
Amy was born Feb. 25, 1969, in Park Ridge, Ill., to Ronald and Sally Cowell. She spent her early childhood in Suring, Wis.
Amy moved to the West Coast in 1976, spending the remainder of her adolescent years in Lynden, Wash. She graduated from Lynden High School in 1986 as a National Merit semifinalist, venturing on to Whitworth College in Spokane, Wash., where she graduated with honors in 1990.
Amy met Jonathan Flint when they were both freshmen at Whitworth, and a solid friendship developed and blossomed into a deep and lasting love. They were married in Golden on Nov. 23, 1991.
Amy was never one to turn her back on a challenge or an opportunity to learn something new, so when she had the opportunity to learn to drive a bus and conduct tours in Skagway, Ala., the summer after her college graduation, she did it. Jonathan did the same. They followed this by driving for Steamboat Springs Transit during the winter, enjoying it so much that they continued to drive buses for several more winters in Steamboat and summers in Skagway.
In 1997, Amy and Jonathan settled year-round in Steamboat, and at that time Amy began working in the loan field, eventually working her way up to loan officer with GMAC Mortgage. Through her job she made new friends and established new plateaus in the process. She also pursued dance lessons, both jazz and ballet, and became extremely active in the Steamboat dance community.
Amy was admired and respected by many. Her genuine faith in God, which grew from an early age, was the basis for the way she lived her life and conducted business.
Amy was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Cowell, in 2000.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jonathan, of Steamboat Springs; her mother, Sally Cowell, of Salem, Ore.; two sisters, Wendy (Cowell) Gutierrez and her husband, Robinson, and their children, Joshua and Caleb, all of Macas, Ecuador, and Melody (Cowell) George, and her husband, Gilbert, of Tacoma, Wash.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; as well as Maggie, Melanie and Mandy, three very special nieces by marriage; and all members of the Flint family.
Amy has left a loving family who grieves for her, a community who misses her and two lovable golden retrievers who continue to look expectantly every time the front door opens wondering if she's coming home.
We're thankful she is home and at peace. We love you, Amy, and will continue to miss you.
