Elaine Maxine Stroncek
Elaine Maxine Stroncek (nee Hall) was born Oct. 18, 1924, in Minneapolis, Minn. She was brought into the Kingdom of God through the washing and regeneration of Holy Baptism and renewed the blessings of her Baptism at her confirmation as she confessed her faith in the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Elaine entered into her eternal home with her Lord May 27, 2002, at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 9 days.
Elaine met Henry “Hank” Stroncek in Minneapolis. Elaine and Hank were joined in Holy Matrimony April 27, 1946, and were blessed by God with more than 56 years of life together.
Elaine was trained as a fashion illustrator at the Minneapolis Art Institute and began her working career as a fashion illustrator and art decorator for Dayton’s Department Store in Minneapolis.
After she and Hank moved to Steamboat Springs in 1971, she worked as a layout artist for the Steamboat Pilot. Later, she and her daughter, Lynn, owned and operated an antiques store call Fat-Chance Antiques.
She loved the Rocky Mountain landscape and all that it offered. She particularly liked skiing, hiking and camping. Her interests also included sewing, quilting, crafts, travel and history, cooking and gardening. She was a charter member of the Steamboat Chapter of Questors (an antique study group) and quilted with the Steamboat Quilters Guild.
Yet, her most treasured stations in life was as wife to Hank, mother to Lynn and Lee, and “Church Lady” to all who loved and treasured her at Concordia Lutheran Church. As an active member she headed the alter guild for many years, was superintendent of the Sunday school, volunteered her time to bible school, women’s guild, rummage sales and the Christmas bazaar. Elaine also played the piano at the extended care center for church services.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Hank Stroncek, one son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Janet Stroncek of Bozeman, Mont.; one daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Larry Worrell of Steamboat Springs; one brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Violet Hall of Cloquet, Minn.; one grandson and wife, Rob and Anje Worrell of Frisco; one great-grandson, Zane, son of Rob and Anje; and many brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus.
A memorial celebration of Elaine’s life was held May 31, 2002, at Concordia Lutheran Church. The Rev. Scott Herbert officiated. A private family committal was held at the Steamboat Springs Cemetery. Mike Peterson of Peterson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorials in Elaine’s name may be sent to either the Concordia Lutheran Church, P.O.
