Former Steamboat Springs resident Thomas W. Duckels Jr., died July 21, 2006, at his home in LaPorte. He was 90.

Tom was born Sept. 12, 1915, in Denver to Thomas and Ethelyn Duckels.

He married Mary Fitzpatrick on Sept. 11, 1938, at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Denver. He was a former resident of Steamboat Springs and Kersey.

He worked in the construction industry and owned and operated Duckels Construction Company from 1956 until the late 1970s in Steamboat Springs.

He also worked in the coalmines, served with the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II and did a lot of farming in his lifetime.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and attending auctions.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Duckels, and his sister, Jane Bacon.

Tom is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Fred and his wife, Sunny Duckels, of Steamboat Springs; daughter, Mary Ann Solomon, and her husband, Chuck, of Loveland; six grandchildren, Dori DeCamillis, Debbie, Dana and Derick Duckels, and Sean and Chuck Solomon; four great-grandchildren, Katelyn Duckels, Brianne and Courtney Solomon and Annabelle DeCamillis; and one step-granddaughter, Rebecca Herz.

A Mass of Resurrection was held on July 27, 2006, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Steamboat Springs. Interment followed at the Steamboat Springs Cemetery.
