Corwin Lyle Guire was born Oct. 16, 1941, in Steamboat Springs to Ralph Fredrick Guire and Mavis Irene Young Guire. He attended school at Steamboat Springs High School and was active in wrestling, football and FFA. Cory attended Western State College and wrestled for the college but had to leave school to return home to work.
Cory purchased his first ranch the fall of 1961 at the age of 18 and began raising sheep, hogs, grain and hay. He began his career in electrical power that same fall and took an I.C.S. course in power production. He worked for the Old McGregor plant in Milner and then the Hayden Station and worked as a board operator until 1970, when he went into ranching full time. Cory married in 1971 to Marilyn Watt and had four children.
Cory had many interests and hobbies besides his ranching: beekeeping, sheep shearing, car restoration, hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, woodworking and playing the fiddle and tenor guitar. Anyone who knew him enjoyed his many stories. His greatest joy besides his family and friends in Christ was helping others.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his mother, Mavis; son Trevor and his wife, Chris, and children Tanner and Brennan; daughter Shawneen and husband Troy; nephew Joe and his wife, Connie, and children Katelynn, Jacob and Shelbie; nephew Bob's wife Karen and child Bobbi Marie; brother Duane and sister Rhoda. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph; brothers Fred and Frank; sister Selma Lee; sons Brennan Lloyd and Seth Corwin; and nephew Bob Guire.
Funeral services for Corwin Lyle Guire were at 11 a.m. July 27, 2002, at the Steamboat Christian Center with Dr. Kevin King officiating. Graveside services followed at the Steamboat Springs Cemetery. Yampa Valley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
