Coach Ramunno enters Hall of Fame
Steamboat Springs wrestling legend Carl Ramunno will be inducted into the Colorado chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
The special ceremony will be held April 29 at the University of Northern Colorado's University Center. At that time Ramunno will be inducted along with the late John Hancock, Bob Smith and Stan Lampe.
Ramunno began his coaching career in 1956 in Steamboat Springs. During his 32 years as coach, he compiled a dual meet record of 365-75-2. He also won six state titles, 18 Northwestern League championships and 19 district titles. Ramunno coached 27 individual champions and 46 other state place winners. He was named the National Coach of the Year in 1988.
Ramunno passed away in 1999 at the age of 68.
The National Hall of Fame and Museum is located in Stillwater, Okla. The Colorado Chapter recognizes individuals for their contributions and accomplishments in wrestling in the state.
