Ora Lee Hoffman passed away
early Monday morning, November
28, 2011, at the home of her
son and daughter-in-law in Grand
Junction, Colorado. She was 93
years of age and very clear in her
thinking to the end. She had many
of her family present in the days
leading to her passing.
Ora Lee was born to Dolphus
Rankin Keith and Georgia Ann Keith (nee Bates) on May 20, 1918
in Etowah, Tennessee. She spent her early childhood in Etowah before
moving to Knoxville, where she graduated high school in 1936.
Around the beginning of World War II, she followed an older sister
to Cincinnati, where she met Harry Ralph Hoffman, her husband of
61 years.
Ora Lee was a seamstress extraordinaire, one who began early
making many of her own clothes and, later, those of her children and
grandchildren. Her interest eventually turned to quilting; she made
several for family members, and many more for the homeless, injured
GI's returning from combat, and others in need.
She was a determined, dignified woman who loved Contract
Bridge, and took great pride in her command of the King's English,
often pulling the dictionary from its rest to check a word's spelling
or pronunciation. She loved her family, romance novels, and
Wal-Mart, and we are certain the world is a better place for her time
here. Ora Lee and Harry were charter members of Faith Lutheran
Church in Wilmington, Ohio, and enjoyed nearly 50 years there. In
2005 they moved to Grand Junction and spent the next six years
living at The Atrium of the Grand Valley.
Ora Lee had four siblings, sisters, Maude and Mary Kate, and twin
brothers, Ray and Ralph, all of whom pre-deceased her. Ora Lee is
survived by her daughter, Patricia of North Canton, Ohio; her son,
David (Bethany) of Grand Junction, Colorado; three grandchildren,
Brian, Lillian, and Ben; and two great-grandchildren, Sage and
Myles.
Ora Lee is on her way. You can honor Ora Lee, and the many staff
who loved her, and helped her in her last days with memorial contributions
to Hospice& Palliative Care, 3090B N. 12th Street, Grand
Junction, CO, 81506.
