Grand Junction resident, Felix "Phil" Sorkis, passed away peacefully
on Friday, December 2, 2011 at the Veterans Administration
Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was 89 years of
age.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday,
December 7, 2011 at the Delta City Cemetery with Pastor Jess
Miller presiding. Military honors will be presented by the VFW Post
3571 and members of the Colorado National Guard Honor Guard.
Felix Sorkis was born to Michael and Helen (Usalis) Sorkis on November
9, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois. He spent his childhood and attended
schools in Chicago. During World War II, Felix honorably
served his country with the United States Marine Corps.
On January 8, 1962, Felix married Theresa Dykstra in Chicago, Illinois,
and gained a step-son and two step-daughters. Felix and
Theresa were married 47 years before Theresa passed away on
January 21, 2009.
Felix, a salesman, enjoyed working on puzzles. He resided in Delta
and Montrose for several years before moving to Grand Junction 11
years ago. He was a member of the Calvary Bible Church and the
V.F.W both in Grand Junction. He will be deeply missed by his
family and close friends.
Felix is survived by his step-daughter and her husband, Diane and
Phillip Stinnett of Cedaredge; a daughter, Lynne Quinn of Chicago,
IL; a son, Michael Sorkis of Chicago, IL; six grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.
Felix was preceded in death by a step-son, Alan Sorkis; one
step-daughter, Nancy Saunders-Gibson; two brothers; two sisters;
and his parents.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Felix's
memory to the Grand Junction VA Medical Center, 2121 North
Ave., Grand Junction, Colorado 81501.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral
Service and Crematory.
